Florida / care rules
What changes when the goal is weight loss?
Florida has a medical-board rule for this kind of treatment, as of September 2026. It matters alongside the general online-care law.

As of September 2026, Florida’s medical-board rule requires an initial exam, full health history, tests tied to weight care and referrals where needed.
The rule covers medicines, supplements and herbal treatments used to help a patient lose weight.
Ask how the person treating you will carry out each part and what records or tests to bring.
Does that mean the first visit must be in person?
As of September 2026, the rule allows online care. A physician assistant, who works under a doctor, or a nurse with advanced training may do the first health assessment.
It does not state that the evaluation must be in person.
Ask how the chosen visit method will cover the assessment. The word online does not answer that question by itself.
Ask how the plan will be reviewed
The rule calls for another evaluation at least every three months, as of September 2026.
Written informed consent must also be kept in the record.
Informed consent means agreeing after the proposed treatment has been explained. Ask what the plan is meant to achieve and what would prompt a change.
Confirm who arranges each review and its cost, and ask what happens when the plan fails to help.
