Use the Florida record

As of September 2026, Florida’s free health licence search shows whether a licence is active, background details and discipline records. Discipline means penalties for breaking professional rules.

Open License Verification. Search the full name, then match the profession and licence details to the person offering the visit.

The search calls background details Practitioner Profile and penalty records Discipline & Admin Actions. Ask about any record you do not understand.

A record showing no public penalty does not rate how well that person cares for patients.

What if the visit is with a nurse or assistant?

Nurse practitioners are nurses with advanced training; their role’s rules set what patient assessment and prescribing they may do.

As of September 2026, Florida nurse practitioners generally work with a supervising doctor and a written plan for their work.

Nurse practitioners are part of the group called advanced practice nurses. Nurses in that group who meet extra requirements can register to work without a supervising doctor. The law limits this to primary care, with family medicine as one example.

A physician assistant works under doctor supervision; Florida requires a prescribing assistant to identify that role to the patient.

Ask what the title means for this visit

Who will assess me? What is your licence type? If there is a supervising doctor, who is that person?

Keep the answers with the licence record. A website badge can wait until the basic record is clear.

For a person treating you from another state by video or phone, use the online-care page to check their Florida registration.
