Florida / care rules
Which Florida rules matter for my care?
Check the person treating you, the medicine and the pharmacy as separate questions.

As of September 2026, Florida has two boards that license doctors. The Board of Medicine handles medical doctors. The Board of Osteopathic Medicine handles doctors whose title ends in DO. Both are part of the Department of Health.
Use the state licence search below and match the doctor’s name and licence type. It saves you from guessing which board to use.
The nursing board handles nurses, including nurse practitioners; the pharmacy board handles pharmacies and pharmacists.
The state’s public search lists both health professionals and places such as pharmacies.
Does a state licence settle the drug question?
No. FDA means Food and Drug Administration. Its approval applies to a medicine; a state licence applies to a person or pharmacy.
As of September 2026, Florida requires medicines made to order for people to follow federal compounding rules.
Compounding is the term for preparing a medicine to order. A Florida permit does not remove those federal limits.
Follow the rule that fits the visit
For care by video or phone, check the Florida licence or Florida registration for a person based in another state. The state calls care from a distance telehealth.
For an office visit, ask for the person’s licence. Then ask: does this clinic need its own licence, or which exception lets it work without one? Some practices do not need a clinic licence.
Use the clinic page linked below to find the official clinic search and ask how to check the answer.
For weight care, read the separate Florida evaluation rule before assuming a general online-care rule answers everything.
